71 - O'Briens Creek Camp Ground.

I have just died and gone to heaven!!!!!!!!!!

This O'Briens Creek Camp Ground is Queensland's best secret.. We had been told about this camp ground by several staff at Undara. They used to spend their four days of R & R here, and now I know why. What a fantastic place.

So after we left BEDROCK VILLAGE at Mt. Surprise, all we had to do is turn right at the cop shop at Mt. Surprise and head 37 kays up a road, that rattled every bone in our bodies. There must have been 15 million corrugations....not at all conducive to the health of the Val and the RetroLiner. So after taking near on two hours to travel the 37 kays, we arrived to an oasis in the middle of the Savannah.

Unbelievable was the cry from the bride, and of course I was in agreeance So we went up and paid for two nights @ $14.00 per night, and was told to camp wherever you like. So we did....overlooking the creek, with views to die for. Our camp area was far enough away not to disturb the neighbours, nor us.

We had to use the Genny to top up our batteries from time to time...without annoying anybody. We had water in our tanks, but there was adequate water up by the toilet blocks. Yep hot water showers and real loos. The bride initially though the camp ground would have had drop toilets, and being a 10 star camper that she is, may have been an issue. But all was well.

Of course what did we do. Follow the creek and check out the swimming holes. So lets have a look at O'Briens Creek Camp Ground

Our camp spot and me setting up the Genny

Here's me crossing the croc infested creek, just below where are camped. Is that a croc I can see surfacing( he he!!!)

Nearly there with a croc not doing much....thank heavens

Made it, but the croc hasn't moved

Wandering off to places unknown

Help I'm lost

Now heading the other way along the creek to another fantastic swimming hole

Just below that water fall is a great place to swim

The perfect signage to stop other campers pitching their rig on top of us. Works every time

The setting sun over our camp spot

Here is a video of our secret swim spot

Guess who's having a swim

We left after three days....sad but had to get to the gulf.........stay tooned for George Town, Croyden and Karumba.

We absolutely loved camping out here at O'Briens in September of 2012 and Easter 2013,the kids loved finding their eggs in the bushes and swimming in the gorgeous Creek, lots of great memories were made with fantastic friends by the camp fire, singing, roasting marshmallows, making damper bread and sinking a few coldies back, the views are amazing also no matter what direction you look in it's beautiful, the 4 wheel drive track down the road was great fun too, both times we came we were greeted lovingly by the owners, I loved the fact that there are hot showers and flushable loos it made it all that more comfortable to stay and want to stay longer then originally planned.
