176 - Croyden

The Out House At Croyden

Croyden is a fascinating place, only very small, but full of history. We last passed through Croyden two years ago after we finished our "tour of duty" at Undara Lava Tubes. Our visit then, although only overnight, was really "cool", especially the Croyden Caravan Park. Apart from the "atmosphere", the free washing machines is a winner, especially to the lady folk.

Sausage Sizzle and happy hour, hosted by "Rob"

This time we originally booked for two nights, but extended for four. Ray and Val also joined us, as well as Ivan, that we also met at Bang Bang free camp.

Rob and his wife Kim are just one of the best management couples we have come across for a long time. Good personalities and very accommodating. Unfortunately they too are becoming victims of the industry....over worked and under paid.

Croyden claim to fame is of course gold, and the information centre is a wealth of knowledge. Apart from the usual displays around the info centre, the theatre was just amazing, with a movie depicting the history and heritage of Croyden. There is also a walking area attached to the info centre which is quite fascinating.

Apart from the walking track  the info centre, there is a hertitage precinct, where a lot of the old buildings have been restored to make up the precinct. Apart from the usual police station and  hospital, what I found interesting was a court room, which has a presentation of a "wench" on trial. You actually sit in the Court room and these cut our figures actually present a court case. press the button, take your seat in the gallery and listen to the proceedings.

Within this complex as I said before is the police station and the hospital. I will show more on these as well as more sights of Croydon....however we came across this very interesting scene of a "hot night" in Croyden

Aaaaa'h is this the Retro Roamers of yesteryear?

Stay tooooned for more on Croyden
