157 - Ants Retreat

Hey honey, forgot to tell ya about the crocs in the pool at the retreat

We have been in Darwin over two weeks now....and our impression of Darwin.........not much really. It has been a long arduous drive to get here. Everything is expensive, from fuel to groceries and everything in between.

Actually what we have seen so far, the tourist season hasn't kicked in yet, with most CP's whinging about poor occupancy for this time of year. It seems a lot of Geriatric Gypsies have given Darwin the miss this year.....and I can see why! Overpriced CP's, fuel costs astronomical, and with a lot of attractions still closed, especially in Kakadont doesn't lend an attractive place to be. Plus the air is filled with smoke, dust and haze, due to the annual bush burn off.

Now how much insurance is there left!!!!!!

However in saying that, Darwin itself is a nice town, well laid out and quite cosmopolitan. You could fire a cannon down the main mall and wouldn't hit a sole. But adding to that, we have done the Mindil Beach Markets, and did the sunset thingy, checked out the water park and the unit developments on the water front........good stuff. However I lost all the photos didn't I. Have to go back into town again before we run away.

Ceeee, I just got all the crocs out with my scoop

We have been into the city a couple of times, however where are staying at Berry Springs, is about a 150kms round trip, and with fuel running at $1.60 a litre, it makes the trip into town a once a week jobbie. However we chose to stay here, so we can't moan to much. We spent two weeks at an established retreat in the area of Berry Springs, and have now moved to another less established retreat. So we also have done the Berry Springs pools and water falls, the NT Nature Park (don't bother).  On the agenda in the very near future is the Darwin Dam and Litchfield National Park. All in all really there is not a lot to do if you want to be on the go all the time. So I really can't see us being here any later than the end of June. However as I have always said, things change by the nano second  for us.

Next Berry Springs....stay toooooned

Hahaha! Love those pix of the crocodiles!!! Is this instead of going on a 'jumping croc' cruise??!! We were last in Darwin in 2008 - and spent a LOT of time at Berry Springs it was SO HOT!! Interesting to get your impressions of Darwin - we enjoyed a cruise across the harbor to Mandorah for lunch at the pub! Good if you like Bob Marley with your beer!!!

Hi guys, hope this finds you all vell and happy.

Yep, probably a little disappointed as we expected Darwin and surrounds to be more tropical.

O'h well, we will do a few more touristy things over the next week or so then make up our mind what's the next step.

Thanks for your comments.

Hey Red did you get that photo I sent about the dunny at Woodford? And Shell, yep damn annoying when photos won't post. Just have another Bundy that will ease the pain (h he!!!)

Cheers and beers
