Although we were traveling out of Queensland, just had to take this photo
The NT at last, to late to turn back now!
So it was now the long haul to Three Waters Road House. We did consider stopping at the Barkley road house, but I just wanted to get the long haul out of the way. Now you my be considering why we didn't break up this section of the drive, and over night in the many free camps. We have a reason for choosing the park environment.
We arrived at the Barkley Road House, and filled up with fuel. Ooooooouch!!!! $2.2c a litre. Geeeeeezus the Val loves fuel at the best of times. Now towing a caravan and stinking hot to boot, the Val sucked up the fuel like a thirsty sponge......shite....maybe I should have turned off at the 'Curry " after all. Although the Barkley Road House had a real good feel to it, we decided to push on.
A'h well 261 kms since Camoweal, another 187 kms to Three Ways, lets do it. To a lot of travellers towing their modern van in their fully air conditioned late model fourby, the distance of 448 kms would be a piece of cake, but not for us. We have to turn our air con off, as it not only over heats the motor, but sucks up a bucket load of fuel to boot. So we travel in a fair bit of discomfort in the heat of the day. However a simple answer......get on the road at Sparrows fart.......however we are notoriously slow starters, so we will have to re-evaluate our travel habits.
After a long haul we arrived at Three Ways Road House. Now Three Ways didn't have the same feel as the Barkley, however as I was totally knackered and the bride was as cranky as the over heated Val, we decided on two nights.
The parking area for vans was at least grass, so we parked up, un hitched and just chilled out for the two days.
Unfortunately through a little bit of delayed communications we missed Dave & Shell by one day at Three Ways. Bugger!!!!! We have communicated with Dave & Shell for quite some time now. They were coming from the west, heading towards Charters Towers, to see one of their daughters, then onto to Brissy for a little bit of van repairs, then off to the states for several months. As it happened the morning we left Three Ways they arrived in the arvo. Bugger again!!!!!!!! O'h well maybe next time.
Three Ways Road House
Three Ways Road House is at the intersection of the Stuart and Barkley Highways
We met some great people at the Road House, and we all seemed to run into each other all the way to Katherine. So after two days we hitched up, looked at the map and said "Daly Waters Pub" here we come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Miles and miles of nothing en route to Daly Waters Pub
A long road to...............where are we going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A flat top
Next blog........Renner Springs to Daly Waters Pub. Stay toooooooned

Well you are now in unchartered territory I am looking forward to the Renner Springs photos. Been 10 years since we were there and curious to see if they got the water feature sorted out. Make sure you stop at Mataranka or the hot springs at Katherine behind the CPark. Didya stop at Avon Downs?
Cheers
